Designing for KnitNet

Invitation and information

Designers of hand-knitting are invited to submit garment and accessory designs for publication.

Proposals are required two months before the first day of the month in which an edition will be published. If your proposal is accepted, the physical garment and pattern, written according to KnitNet guidelines in Microsoft Word, are due one month before the first day of the month in which an edition will be published. For example for the June edition, we would like proposals by April 1; garment and pattern document would be due May 1.

Step 1

Email proposals to editor@knitnet.com.

Proposals should comprise a detailed description of the garment and a sketch. information required includes sizes for which instructions will be provided, yarn information —brand name, weight, yardage, colour —and a jpeg of the swatch of your pattern.

Please also include a detailed list of your work published by third parties like other professional knitting magazines, book publishers or yarn companies.

New designers: if you are not previously published by a third party, please include a sample of one of your knitted and written patterns with charts (if required) and schematics, all in attached Word documents, along with a photo of the garment. If you prefer, you can place these on your Web site — if you have one! — and supply the URL. If you cannot provide examples of finished patterns as described, please don't enquire about submitting to KnitNet!

All proposals must represent the original work of the submitting designer.

Step 2

If your enquiry receives a positive response, you will be be sent our Guidelines for Submission. by email.

Please see the link below concerning our Intellectual Property arrangements. By the way, in order to make a final decision, we may request that you send a complete proposal package by mail, including a swatch, sketches of your design, and a yarn sample.

We reserve the right to refuse submissions at any point before actual publication.

Proposal packages are not returned.

Submissions from the United States must be accompanied by a declaration that this is a sample garment with no commercial value and will be returned to you. Please see detailed instructions in our Guidelines.
