SKILL LEVEL FINISHED MEASUREMENTS MATERIALS AND TOOLS Set of five double pointed needles, 5 mm GAUGE Abbreviation for this garment MethodUsing CC, cast on 36 stitches. Divide the stitches evenly among 4 needles and join, being careful not to twist stitches. There will be 9 stitches on each needle. Mark the first stitch. Working in the round, purl to end of each round until cuff measures 4.5 cm / 1 3/4 ins. Break CC. Using MC, knit to end of each round until MC section of leg measures 15 cm/6 in, stopping at the end of Needle 3. Make the heel flap Work back and forth in rows on Needle 1 stitches, turning after each row. The instep stitches remain on Needles 2 and 3. Row 1: (WS) Slip 1, p to end of row, turn. Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the heel flap measures about 7 cm/2 3/4 ins. End on a knit row. Turn the heel Row 1: P11, P2tog, P1. Turn, leaving 4 sts unworked. There are 12 stitches remaining. Heel gusset Continuing with MC, knit the instep stitches on Needles 2 and 3. There will be 9 sts on each needle. With another empty needle, pick up and knit 7 sts along the left edge of the heel flap. On the same needle, knit 6 stitches from the heel sts. Slip the remaining stitches to Needle 1. You now have 13 sts on Needle 1 and 13 sts on Needle 4. There are 9 sts on Needle 2 and 9 sts on Needle 3. Beginning with Needle 1, work in the round. Rnd 1: Knit to last 3 sts on Needle 1, K2tog, K1. Knit all of the stitches on Needles 2 and 3. On Needle 4, K1, SSK, knit to end of needle. Rnd 2: Knit to end of round. Rnds 3 - 8: Repeat Rnds 1 and 2, decreasing 2 sts in each odd-numbered round until each of the 4 needles has 9 sts, for a total of 36 sts. Foot Toe Cut yarn, leaving a 25 cm/10 in tail. Thread tail through yarn needle, draw through remaining sts and pull firmly to secure. Weave in end on wrong side of work. Loop Finishing |
