MATERIALS AND TOOLS
- Rowan Handknit DK Cotton (100% cotton), 1 3/4oz/ 50g balls (each approx 93yds/ 85m) in the following quantities and colours:
12 (13, 14) balls colour #277, Turkish Plum; MC (main colour)
2 (3, 3) balls colour # 324 Bermuda; contrasting colour B
1 (1, 1) balls colour # 215, Rosso; contrasting colour C
1 (1, 1,) balls colour # 319, Mango Fool; contrasting colour D
- One pair 4.50mm (US 7) needles or needles required to obtain gauge given below
- 4.50mm (US 7) circular needle, 24ins/ 60cm long
- 1 stitch holder
- 2 stitch markers
GAUGE
19 sts and 25 rows = 10cm/ 4ins over St st
Abbreviations for this pattern

Note
Read charts from right to left on RS (odd-numbered) rows and from left to right on WS (even-numbered) rows. When changing colours, twist yarns on WS to avoid holes.
METHOD
Front
** With MC, cast on 97 (109, 121)sts.
Next row (RS): [K1, sl1p] to last st, k1.
Next row (WS): [K1, yfwd, sl1p, ybk] to last st, k1.
Next row (RS): Knit.
Next row (WS): Purl.
Beg with a k (RS) row, work rows 1 to 37 of Chart A. **
Beg with a p (WS) row, work in St st until piece from beg measures 13 (13 1/2, 14)ins/ 33 (34.5, 35.5)cm, ending with a WS row.
Left V-neck shaping:
Next row (RS, dec row): K45 (51, 57), k2tog, k1, turn. Leave rem 49 (55, 61)sts on a spare needle. 47 (53, 59)sts now on needle.
Next row (WS): Purl.
Cont in St st, dec 1 st at neck edge in this manner next and every alternate row to 24 (30, 36)sts on needle.
Work even in St st until piece from beg measures 21 1/2 (22, 22 1/2)ins/ 54.5 (56, 57)cm, ending with a WS row.
Bind off.
Right V-neck shaping:
Return to 49 (55, 61)sts on spare needle. With RS facing, place centre st on a st holder, rejoin yarn k1, ssk, k to end of row. 47 (53, 59)sts now on needle.
Next row (WS): Purl.
Next row (RS, dec row): K1, ssk, k to end of row. 46 (52, 58)sts now on needle.
Cont in St st, dec 1 st at neck edge in this manner every alternate row to 24 (30, 36)sts on needle.
Work even in St st until piece from beg measures 21 1/2 (22, 22 1/2)ins/ 54.5 (56, 57)cm, ending with a WS row.
Bind off.
Back
Work as for Front from ** to **.
Beg with a p (WS) row, work in St st until piece from beg measures 21 1/2 (22, 22 1/2)ins/ 54.5 (56, 57)cm, ending with a WS row.
Next row (RS, bind-off): Bind off 24 (30, 36)sts for right shoulder, place marker; bind off 49 sts for centre back neck, place marker; bind off 24 (30, 36)sts for left shoulder.
Sleeves
With MC, cast on 43 sts.
Next row (RS): [K1, sl1p] to last st, k1.
Next row (WS): [K1, yfwd, sl1p, ybk] to last st, k1.
Next row (RS): Knit.
Next row (WS): Purl.
Establish patt as follows:
Row 1 (RS): Rep the 6-st patt of Chart B 7 times across row, work st 1 of chart.
Row 2 (WS): Work st 1 of Chart B, rep the 6-st patt to end of row.
Cont in Chart B patt to end of chart row 9.
Beg with a p (WS) row, work in St st, inc 1 st at beg and end of 4th row, then every foll 5th row to 65 (73, 83)sts, then every foll 6th (6th, 0) row to 79 (81, 83)sts.
Work even in St st until sleeve from beg measures 18 (18 1/2, 18 1/2)ins/ 46 (47, 47)cm, ending with a WS row.
Bind off.
Finishing
Block pieces to size, pressing very lightly on WS.
Sew shoulder seams. Place markers along Front/Back side edges 8 1/4 (8 1/2, 8 3/4)ins/ 21 (21.5, 22)cm down from shoulder seam. Sew sleeves in place between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Weave in loose yarn ends.
Collar
With MC, cast on 3 sts.
Beg with a k row (RS), work from Chart C, inc 1 st at beg and end of 3rd then every alternate row as indicated to 55 sts on needle, then work even until 86 rows have been completed, thus ending with a WS row.
Turn Chart C upside down and beg with chart row 85 (RS), work opposite half of collar to match first half, decreasing where indicated and ending with row 1.
Bind off rem 3 sts.
Fold collar in half lengthwise so wrong sides are together. Referring to photo, slipstitch in place around neckline.
