MATERIALS AND TOOLS

  • 4 (5, 5) 100g balls Stylecraft Pure Wool Dk 100% wool 240 meters. Color 3607 MC
  • 1 ball of each CC colors 3497, 3499, 3493, 3498.
  • One pair 3.5 mm/4 US knitting needles
  • One pair 4mm/6US knitting needle
  • Stitch holders
  • Sewing needle

GAUGE
22 st and 24 rows = 10cm/4 ins in stocking st.

Inc. = Increase 1 stitch
K2tog = Knit two stitches together
MC = Main colour
CC = Contrast color

STITCHES

Stocking stitch = row 1 knit, row 2 purl.
Ribbing = knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch

METHOD

BACK
With smaller needles and MC cast on 110 (120, 130,) sts. Work in k1, p1, ribbing for 7.5cm/3 ins. Change to larger needles and work in stocking stitch until piece from beginning measures 35.5 ( 37, 38) cm/ 14 (14.5, 15) ins. Work the pattern from the Fair Isle chart to row 60. Bind off 35 (40, 45) sts beginning and end of row, leaving the center 40 (45, 50) stitches on a stitch holder for the back neck.

FRONT
Work same as back till row 34 is complete.

To shape neck:
Work 45 (50, 55) stitches in pattern, place remaining stitches on a stitch holder to be worked later. Continue working the Fair Isle pattern from chart, at the same time bind off 2 stitches at neck edge on next row, then 1 stitch every alternate row 8 times. 35, (40, 45) sts. Work till row 60 of the chart is complete and bind off. Leave the center 20 (22, 24) sts on holder for front neck. Join yarn to left side of neck and work in pattern as for right front, reversing all shapings, until row 60 has been completed. Bind off.


SLEEVES
With smaller needles and MC cast on 48 (50, 52) stitches and work ribbing pattern for 7.5cm/3 ins. On the last row increase 22 stitches evenly across 70 (72, 74) stitches. Change to larger needles and work in stocking stitch increasing 1 stitch at the beginning and end of the 5th row and every 4th row thereafter to 110 (116, 120) stitches on needle. At the same time when work from beginning measures 34 (34, 36) cm/ 13.5 (13.5, 14) ins, begin the Fair Isle chart. Start with row 35 and centering the motif, working to row 60. Bind off.

Neckband
With MC and small needles pick up 110 (115, 120) stitches evenly around the neckline. Work in ribbing pattern for 4cm/1.5 ins. Bind off loosely.

With needle sew garment together and weave in all ends.
