Finishing
Block pieces.
Using a single strand of yarn, whipstitch the sides of the bag's strap together on the underside so that the cable shows on top as the bag's 'chain'.

Folding main body of bag along purl ridges, attach the side panels to the main body along the sides and bottom edges.

Toggle
Because the front of the bag has been worked 'upside down', there will appear to be 29 sts across, plus half a stitch at each end. Using the yarn held double as before, thread it through the 15th st from either end, three rows up from the bottom ridge.
Use this yarn to cast on 3 sts
Row 1: Using both the tail and the working yarn, K3.
Row 2: P3.
Row 3: (K1, yo) twice, k1 - 5 sts.
Row 4: P5.
Row 5: (K1, yo) 4 times, k1 - 9 sts.
Row 6: P9.
Row 7: K2tog twice, k1, k2tog twice - 5 sts.
Row 8: P5.
Row 9: K2tog, k1, k2tog - 3 sts.
Row 10: P3.
Row 11: *Using right needle, reach down and pick up P nub from the wrong side of Row 2, then slip it onto the left needle; work this st together with the next st on the needle; repeat from * to end of row.

Bind off all sts knitwise.

Cut a tail 12ins/ 31cm long, and wrap it several times around the original join on the bag. Using a darning needle, thread both ends repeatedly through the inside of the toggle to work them in while adding bulk. Trim close.

Lining
Lining is optional but it is helpful in retaining the bag's shape.
In a complementary fabric, cut one rectangle 12ins/ 31cm long and 7ins/ 18cm wide, then two more each 4 1/2ins/ 11.5cm long and 4ins/ 10cm wide.

With wrong sides of lining facing, stitch side panels to longer piece with a 1/8ins/ 3mm selvedge.
Turn inside out so that right sides are facing, and stitch the panels with a 1/4ins/ 6mm selvedge.
Handstitch lining into bag, with wrong sides together, taking care not to run thread to the outside of the bag where it will show.
